Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry, President of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change COP27, met today, November 10, 2022, with the United States Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, stated that the meeting tackled various aspects of the ongoing discussions in the climate conference, whether within official negotiations between states, or at the symposia and events held on the sidelines of the conference during the various thematic days, as the U.S. Envoy expressed delight at having participated in many of these events.
Abu Zeid added that the U.S. Envoy outlined, during the meeting, the key elements of the U.S. position on the items of the conference’s agenda. Minister Shoukry emphasized the keenness of the COP27 Presidency to help all parties reach the required consensus on various issues in a manner that ensures enhancing the ability of all states and partners to promote and support the global climate action agenda.
Moreover, Mr. Sameh Shoukry assured the U.S. Envoy Kerry that the conference’s presidency is happy with the positive spirit prevailing among the delegations, and the obvious desire to reach understandings and consensual positions on the various items on the agenda, and expressed eagerness to listen to all the participating parties in order to achieve this goal.
