Meet Rana el Kaliouby, an Egyptian-American thought leader and pioneer in artificial intelligence (AI), Machine Learning Scientist, Entrepreneur, and the Deputy CEO at Smart Eye, as well the Former Co-Founder and CEO of Affectiva. She is also the author of “Girl Decoded,” and is often referenced for her mission to “humanize AI” through humanizing technology known as Emotion AI.
A graduate of the American University of Cairo, she was also named by Forbes to their list of America’s Top 50 Women in Tech, in Fortune’s list of 40 under 40, and was chosen by the World Economic Forum to be a Young Global Leader and member of WEF’s Future Global Council on Robotics and Artificial Intelligence.
Although el Kaliouby resides in the US, she has maintained a presence and office in Cairo, and joined the Board of Directors of the Egyptian American Enterprise Fund, in 2021. The EAEF is a U.S. government-seeded investment fund with a mission to help Egypt’s private sector become a leading engine of growth, a mission she has stated is near and dear to her heart.
