Egypt Celebrates the 113th Anniversary of the Egyptian Museum

The Egyptian Museum, home to the world’s most extensive collection of Pharaonic antiquities, is celebrating today its 113th anniversary.

 

“Welcome to Egypt,” Antiquities Minister Mamdouh el-Damaty said at the celebration outside the museum in the heart of Cairo. “We always have new things when it comes to antiquities,” he said.

 

A new museum being built by the Pyramids, known as The Grand Egyptian Museum, will partially open in May 2018. It will house the full collection of King Tutankhamun’s treasures, as well as other artifacts that have been kept in storage because of lack of display space – some 120,000 pieces
