Statement from the Presidency of the Arab Republic of Egypt
In response to the request of the Republic of Yemen and in line with the position adopted by the member-states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to support the legitimacy approved by the people of Yemen led by President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi; and emanating from the obligation the Arab Republic of Egypt assumes toward the preservation of Arab national security in the Gulf region and the Red Sea; and in line with the Joint Arab Defense Treaty and the Charter of the Arab League, it was imperative for Egypt to assume its responsibility and respond to the call of the Yemeni people in order to restore stability and preserve its Arab identity. This will take place through the participation of units from the Egyptian Navy and Air Force, after fulfilling constitutional procedures, to restore stability and legitimacy in Yemen. This participation will take place to support measures undertaken by the coalition comprised of GCC countries as well as a number of Arab and Islamic states.
Egypt hopes that these military procedures will restore security and stability to the Republic of Yemen under its legitimate leadership and eradicate attempts to foment unrest and jeopardize its national unity.
