President El Sisi meets Minister of the Interior
Today, at the Ittihadia Palace, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met with the Minister of the Interior Mohamed Ibrahim. The meeting was also attended by a number of senior officials from the Ministry.
Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Ehab Badawy, stated the meeting witnessed an agreement on developing a comprehensive strategy to address security challenges, including the provision of trainings in police faculties and institutions, as well as for officers and security personnel, and the signing of cooperation protocols with friendly countries to dispatch Egyptian police officers to study and train abroad. The training is intended to raise professional security standards with a focus on increasing the level of technical expertise on the latest devices and in modern investigative and evidence collection techniques. It is also aimed at imparting the latest methods of policing with respect to human rights and other humanitarian aspects when dealing with citizens.
Ambassador Badawy added the President instructed the formation of a specialized committee to identify current and future challenges and carry out this comprehensive security strategy. President El Sisi also stressed the utmost importance of taking all possible steps to ensure the safety of security personnel while performing their duty, raising their morale and incentivizing good community policing that respects the rights of the individual.
President El Sisi instructed that urgent measures be implemented to combat terrorism within the provisions of the Constitution and the law, and the tightening of security measures at ports and border crossings to prevent the infiltration or escape of terrorist elements. These measures also are also aimed at preventing the smuggling of weapons and ammunition, as well as intensifying police presence on the streets and launching far reaching security campaigns. The President underlined the need to eradicate negative behavior, including sexual harassment, electricity theft and the smuggling of subsidized foodstuffs. The President also ordered finding urgent solutions to traffic congestion and ensuring existing statutes are vigorously applied to those who violate the law. He called on The Ministry of the Interior, in coordination with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Local Development to help find a solution for unregulated street vendors until alternative regulated markets can be arranged for them.
