Statement of the Egyptian Presidency regarding the terrorist attacks that took place today

The Egyptian Presidency condemns in the strongest possible terms the bombings in Cairo this morning, which left more innocent Egyptians dead and wounded.

Such cowardly acts, which aim to weaken the resolve of the Egyptian people, will only unite us further and strengthen our determination to realize the goals of the 25thJanuary and 30th June revolutions. These attacks only increase our perseverance and unwavering commitment to eradicate terrorism from the whole of Egypt and move forward toward implementing the roadmap for the future.

Egypt’s presidency vows to bring the perpetrators of these heinous attacks to justice, and promises that all those who planned, funded, instigated, participated in and executed these attacks will not escape punishment. This assault on our homeland is a redline, and we will not tolerate those who cross it.

The Egyptian state, which previously defeated terrorism in the nineties will uproot it once again and will show neither pity nor mercy to those who abandoned their nation and moved away from the true teachings of our peaceful religion. The preservation of the peace and safety of our nation is an awesome responsibility, which we assume with great honor, and God willing, we will succeed in our endeavours. We will not hesitate to undertake the necessary measures to preserve the lives of our people, and the security of our homeland.

The presidency mourns the senseless loss of innocent lives and we extend to the families of those who perished our deepest condolences. The Presidency reiterates that no act, however grave will deter the nation’s drive to democracy. We will be steadfast in the face of all those trying to spread terror in the hearts and minds of the people of this proud nation and will not rest until we secure stability throughout this great land.
