Congratulations to all the African diplomats in D.C. who completed the training program “Digital Diplomacy: To Optimize Intra-African Trade” which was hosted at the Egyptian Embassy in Washington D.C. from the 13th to the 16th of February 2023. The training program was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt and the Egyptian Agency for Partnership and Development in Africa and sponsored by AFREXIM Bank and IBDL learning group.

On Thursday 30 November, Ambassador Yasser Reda & Mrs. Nahla Reda hosted a black tie dinner on Capitol Hill commemorating the 40th anniversary of former Egyptian President Anwar El Sadat's historic visit to Israel. The Embassy was pleased to welcome Her Excellency Jehan Sadat as the evening's keynote speaker.

Ambassador Reda & Mrs. Reda welcomed Special Assistant & Senior Advisor to President Donald J Trump, Jared Kushner, as a special guest & speaker.

Ambassador Reda & Mrs. Reda were also honored to welcome Secretary of the Treasury Steve Mnuchin & his wife Louise Linton.

Egyptian-American & Deputy National Security Advisor to President Donald J Trump, Dina Powell, also attended the evening's event as a special guest & speaker.

Ambassador Reda opened the event by thanking guests for attending, stating: "Your presence & friendship are a testament towards the lasting impact of President Sadat, whose commitment to and sacrifice for peace continues to command the respect & admiration of people throughout the world."

In the context of President Sadat's "courage and willingness" to face difficult problems, Jared Kushner underscored the United States' firm commitment to "supporting Egypt's efforts to combat terrorism" and called Egypt "America's close friend and partner in fighting terror".

Her Excellency Jehan Sadat thanked the attendees for recognizing & honoring the "values of peace embodied in the actions" of her late husband, stating: "Your efforts to honor him prove once again that the Camp David peace treaty exists for the welfare not only of Egypt and Israel but also the United States and the whole world."

During her remarks, Dina Powell emphasized President Trump's commitment to pursuing peace in the Middle East.

During his remarks, Israel's Ambassador to the U.S. Ron Dermer emphasized Israel's enduring commitment to peace with Egypt. Amb. Dermer stated that the relationship between Israel & Egypt has "never been stronger" & underscored Israel's deep appreciation for President El Sisi's "efforts to strengthen it even further."

18-21 September 2017: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi traveled to New York City to attend the 72nd United Nations General Assembly.

On 20 September, President El Sisi met with U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss bilateral relations and various issues of mutual interests.

The meeting between President El Sisi and Donald Trump included U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster and UN Ambassador Nikki Haley.

During the meeting, President El Sisi discussed a number of regional and international issues, including combatting terrorism in the region and ways to revive the peace process.

On 19 September, President El Sisi addressed the 72nd General Assembly of the United Nations. During his speech, he discussed Egypt’s leading role in regional and international diplomacy, ongoing efforts to resolve regional crises as well as the Arab-Israeli conflict, and strategy for confronting terrorism and defeating extremism.

On 20 September, President El Sisi participated in a session of the United Nations Security Council session to discuss the reform of UN Peace Keeping Missions.

President El Sisi meets with President of the World Bank Jim Yong Kim. During the meeting, he expressed appreciation for the World Bank’s efforts to support Egypt at various levels, and affirmed Egypt’s determination to continue implementing its economic reform program.

On 18 September, President El Sisi met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss ways to revive the peace process.

During the meeting, President El Sisi underscored the importance Egypt accords to the efforts to resume negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis and noted that he valued the efforts exerted by President Trump’s administration.

On 18 September, President El Sisi also met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at his residence in New York. During the meeting, President El Sisi affirmed that Palestine will continue to be a top priority in Egypt’s foreign policy, and the two presidents agreed to continue coordination to help build a better future for the Palestinian people.

President El Sisi meets with President of the European Council Donald Tusk to discuss the Egypt-European Union partnership.

President El Sisi meets with a group of U.S. influencers, think tank experts and former officials to discuss Egypt-U.S. partnership and strategic relations.

During the meeting with U.S. influencers, President El Sisi emphasized his desire to continue strengthening relations between Egypt and the U.S., and reviewed Egypt’s progress fighting terrorism and reforming its economy.

President El Sisi attends a dinner sponsored by the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU). President El Sisi, in addition to representatives from U.S. businesses and investment funds, met to discuss economic cooperation between Egypt and the United States.

During the BCIU dinner, President El Sisi also reviewed current plans to boost investments and improve the economy in Egypt.

President El Sisi meets with U.S. business leaders from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, thanking them for their work to strengthen Egypt-U.S. relations, and encouraged further bilateral economic cooperation, trade and development.

On Monday, 3 April, President El Sisi arrives at the White House to meet with President Donald Trump.

During the visit, the two leaders met in the Oval Office and held an expanded bilateral discussion in the Cabinet Room as well as a working lunch in the State Dining Room.

President El Sisi’s meeting with President Trump at the White House was the first in a series of meetings as part of his first official trip to the United States. This also marked the first official visit to the U.S. by an Egyptian president in eight years.

During this meeting, President El Sisi told President Trump that “Egypt is standing beside the U.S.” to counter the immense dangers of terrorism.

President El Sisi meets with Treasury Secretary, Steve Mnuchin. During the meeting, the President offered an overview of Egypt’s ambitious economic reform program and reviewed investment opportunities in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

On Tuesday, 4 April, President El Sisi held a series of meetings on Capitol Hill. During the meetings, President El Sisi addressed efforts Egypt has exerted “to renew the religious discourse in order to reflect the tolerance and moderation of Islam which knows no extremism.” Above, President El Sisi meets with members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, including Chairman Bob Corker and Ranking Member Ben Cardin.

President El Sisi meets with House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes. During the meeting, President El Sisi reviewed Egypt's role in combating terrorism and confronting the threat of extremist organizations in the region.

President El Sisi meets with Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain and Senate Appropriations State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs Subcommittee Chairman Lindsey Graham. During the meeting, they exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, including Egypt’s efforts for combatting terrorism.

Secretary of Defense James Mattis greets President El Sisi at the Pentagon. Upon his arrival, Secretary Mattis hosted an enhanced honor cordon welcoming President El Sisi.

During President El Sisi’s talks with Secretary Mattis and senior U.S. military officials, he emphasized the importance of strategic Egypt-U.S. relations, particularly military cooperation, and stressed the importance of increasing international efforts to dry up the sources of terrorism by halting the flow of arms, fighters and funding to terrorist groups.

President El Sisi meets with International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde. During the meeting, Lagarde commended President El Sisi for implementing a strong economic reform program to rebuild Egypt’s economy.

During the meeting at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, President El Sisi emphasized the importance of economic relations between Egypt and the U.S. and reviewed progress made on economic reform.

Following the private meeting, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce hosted President El Sisi for a roundtable event with dozens of American business leaders.

During the event, President El Sisi further highlighted national projects currently being implemented, including the Suez Canal Area Development Project and the construction of new cities and emphasized that “Egypt looks forward to seeing an increase an American investment in Egypt.”

President El Sisi meets privately with General Electric CEO, Jeff Immelt. During the meeting, the President underscored the importance the government attaches to overcoming impediments that investors face so as to attract further investment in various sectors.

President El Sisi meets privately with Lockheed Martin CEO, Marillyn Hewson. During the meeting, the President lauded Lockheed Martin’s “contributions to supplying Egypt with military aircraft, spare parts and necessary equipment, in addition to their ongoing cooperation in the field of technical training.”

During the meeting, President El Sisi discussed Egypt’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the United States.

On Thursday 12 July 2018, the Embassy of Egypt hosted a National Day celebration to commemorate the 66th anniversary of the 1952 Egyptian Revolution.

Ambassador Yasser Reda and Mrs. Nahla Reda were pleased to welcome White House Senior Advisor Jared Kushner as an honored guest.

Ambassador Reda and Mrs. Reda were also honored to welcome U.S. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and his wife, Louise Linton.

Ambassador Reda and Mrs. Reda greeted Representative Ed Royce (R-CA) upon his arrival to the celebration.

During his keynote remarks, Ambassador Reda underscored the value of the Egypt-U.S. partnership and highlighted the strong solidarity between the Egyptian and American people.

During her remarks, Yael Lempert, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Egypt and the Maghreb for the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, affirmed the administration’s commitment to Egypt as a close friend and partner against terror.

Ambassador Reda stood with Representatives Brenda Lawrence (D-MI) and Mark Meadows (R-NC) during Deputy Assistant Secretary Lempert’s remarks.

Following the remarks, Ambassador Reda was pleased to welcome Representative Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA).

During the event, guests enjoyed a wide array of Egyptian fare, including koshary– the popular Egyptian dish made of rice, macaroni, lentils and chickpeas topped with spiced tomato sauce, garlic vinegar and crispy fried onions.

Guests also enjoyed the evening’s entertainment, including traditional Egyptian dance performances such as the tanoura dance.
