Foreign Minister Shoukry Meets With U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo
On Wednesday, 8 August, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Washington, D.C to discuss the strong Egypt-U.S. partnership. According to a release posted on Egypt’s State Information Service (SIS) website, talks between Minister Shoukry and Secretary Pompeo “reflected the two countries’ desire to give a push to bilateral relations in the coming period through intensifying visits between the two countries’ officials and holding a new round of strategic dialogue and the 2+2 dialogue meetings between ministers of foreign affairs and defense of the two countries.”
Additionally, Minister Shoukry briefed Secretary Pompeo “on the latest political and economic developments in Egypt and efforts exerted by the Egyptian government to improve the economic and social situation in the country.”

Egypt, US FMs discuss bilateral relation in Washington

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held on Wednesday 8/8/2018 talks with his US counterpart Michael Pompeo during his current visit to the US.
The talks reflected the two countries’ desire to give a push to bilateral relations in the coming period through intensifying visits between the two countries’ officials and holding a new round of strategic dialogue and the 2+2 dialogue meetings between ministers of foreign affairs and defense of the two countries, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said.
Shoukry briefed Pompeo on the latest political and economic developments in Egypt and efforts exerted by the Egyptian government to improve the economic and social situation in the country.
The meeting also reviewed Egypt’s efforts in the fight against terrorism.
For his part, Pompeo termed Egypt as a “strategic partner” to the US in the Middle East region, stressing that the current US administration is keen on bolstering relations with Egypt.
The US is committed to supporting Egypt in the political, economic and developmental domains through current cooperation mechanisms between the two countries, the top US diplomat noted.
Pompeo further praised efforts exerted by Egypt to achieve Palestinian reconciliation and alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
The two sides also tackled the situation in Syria, Libya and Palestine, and agreed to continue talks over the coming period to settle Mideast issues.
